About the Author

Bertha Boykin Todd is a retired school administrator. She served the New Hanover County Public School System for 39 years in six different positions. Todd is a 73-year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Alpha Psi Omega Chapter. After a 68-year membership of The Links, Incorporated, she is now an alumna member of the organization. Her first book, My Restless Journey, was published in 2010. Since that time, Todd as written four additional books including Reflections on a Massacre and a Coup. This community strategist has received national, regional, and local awards. Todd and her late spouse are the parents of two adult children: Rita, a retired educator; and Brian, a Captain a Line Check Airman with Delta Airlines.

In Reflections on a Massacre and a Coup, Bertha Boykin Todd shares how a group of citizens in Wilmington, North Carolina came together to create the centennial commemoration of the 1898 Massacre, eventually forming the 1898 Centennial Commission (now the 1898 Memorial Foundation). Todd recounts how it all came to be, including the creation of 1898 Memorial Park in 2008.
